Library Policies

MUST have VALD ID:

TTC Students/Faculty/Staff can get their TTC ID in Student Life (Thornley Campus, building 500, room 122). (More Information

All borrowers must present a valid ID from Trident Technical College or one of the following academic libraries: Charleston Southern University, The Citadel, The College of Charleston, or any South Carolina technical college.  

TTC students:

  • Limit: 10 items, including no more than 5 DVDs at a time.
  • Book:  2 week loan |  2 renewals    
  • DVD: 1 week loan  |   1 renewal
  • CD/Audiocassette: 1 week loan  |   2 renewals  
  • Reserves: 2 item limit |  2 hour loan or overnight loan |  2 renewals  |  Fines: $.25 per hour w/maximum of $100.00
  • Lost or Damaged items: Item price and a $5.00 non-refundable processing fee
  • PASCAL Delivers: Limit: 50 at a time |  6 week loan | Fines: $.00 if returned  | Lost Books: $100/book, if not returned
  • Interlibrary loan: 1 month  |  Fines: $.00 if returned   |   Lost Books: Price dictated by Owning Library

TTC Faculty/Staff:

  • Book:  3 month loan | 2 renewals   
  • Journal: 1 week loan | 2 renewals  
  • DVD: 1 week loan | 1 renewal 
  • CD/Audiocassette: 1 week loan | 2 renewals  
  • Lost or Damaged items: Item price and a $5.00 non-refundable processing fee

**Borrowers can log in to their library account to see what items they have checked out, when they are due, and if they have any late fees.** 
**All library fines must be paid to register for classes or request a transcript.**

TTC Alumni

  • Alumni Card: to borrow library books, Alumni must request an TTC Alumni Association membership card https://www.tridenttech.edu/foundation/alumni/index.htm
  • Books & DVDs: Alumni may checkout up to 3 TTC items for a 2 week period.
  • Online Resources: Due to licensing agreements with the library's database vendors, alumni may only access databases from within the library.  

TTC Patrons Visiting other Institutions:

All Trident Tech students, faculty and staff are able to check out books from other participating PASCAL libraries if you are in good standing with your home institution, with no late fees or overdue items.

For Trident Tech students, faculty, and staff to check out a book from a participating PASCAL institution, you will have to present a picture ID and know your 7 digit student ID number. If you do not know this number, it can be found in TTC Express under “My profile”

Visiting Patron Loan Policy:

  • limited to three items
  • checkout period for these items is three weeks with one renewal.
  • If a book is lost, there is a $75.00 replacement fee and a $25 handling fee. After the six week lending period has expired, patrons should receive three overdue notices. After the third overdue notice, patrons will be billed $100.00, reflecting the combined handling fee and lost book fee. If the overdue book is returned, the fine will be cleared from your record.

INTERLIBRARY LOAN

Interlibrary Loan is a service offered by libraries to expand the resources available to their clientele. Materials are borrowed from other libraries for the specific research needs of students, faculty and staff.

  • This service is available only to current TTC students, faculty and staff.
  • A valid TTC identification number is required.
  • Articles are $.10 per page. There is no charge for articles by e-mail.
  • Books and articles must be picked up within 5 days of notification.
  • The cost of articles not picked up will be added to your account.
  • Respect the privilege of interlibrary borrowing and return materials on time.

COMPUTER USE

Resources made available via the library/LRC computer workstations are provided to support the teaching and learning needs of Trident's students, faculty and staff.

  • Research and course-related activities are a priority for any LRC computer.  
  • No games are allowed on any LRC computer. Users may not add any application, program or image to the system. 
  • The LRC computer workstations are to provide equitable access. Time limits will be imposed if necessary. 
  • Individuals are reminded that the material displayed on a computer screen must be appropriate for a public environment. Inappropriate material causes a disturbance and will be treated as student misbehavior. The continued misuse of LRC computers will result in loss of privileges and possible disciplinary actions. 
  • Downloading or printing questionable material may be illegal and subject to prosecution.
  • Persons using these computers are liable for any copyright infringement.

WIRELESS CONNECTION USE

You can log into our wireless network from your own laptop by following these steps:

  1. For easy access to TTC’s wireless network, bring any device such as a laptop or mobile device (iphone, smartphone, etc.) that is wifi enabled.
  2. Find a list of available wireless networks. Depending on the device, instructions may vary. Generally you can go to your network connections and settings options to choose a network.
  3. Choose "TTC Wireless" to connect to our wireless network.

STUDY ROOM POLICY

The LRC study rooms are available only to TTC students for the purpose of study groups or quiet study. The rooms are not available for club or organization meetings, for adjuncts needing office space, or for outside entities who wish to conduct business. Students using study rooms for activities other than studying will be asked to vacate the room. Students should follow the occupancy restrictions posted outside each study room door. The large study rooms are locked and are for the use of groups of three or more. Requirements for using the group study rooms are as follows:

  • Room key must be checked out at the circulation desk.
  • Groups must be 3 or more.
  • All group members must be present at the circulation desk to receive a study room key.
  • One group member must leave a TTC ID at the circulation desk.
  • Rooms can be used for 2 hours with a renewal period of 2 hours.

Students should remember that study rooms are not sound-proof and noise should be kept at a reasonable level. As in the rest of the LRC, talking on cell phones, eating, and bringing children into a study room are not allowed.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Trident Technical College Learning Resources Center provides resources and services that are relevant to the nature and needs of TTC’s students, curriculum and instructional programs and that promote intellectual growth and cultural development of TTC students, faculty and staff.

Operational Goals: 

  • Organize and manage the Learning Resources program for minimum effort on the part of the user to access resources and acquire services at the point of need, on or off campus.
  •  Acquire and prepare for use a balanced collection of learning resources that truly reflects the needs of the College by involving faculty, staff and students in the selection process.
  •  Assist students, faculty and staff in the effective use of Learning Resources through a strong information literacy and reference program.
  •  Provide opportunities for each Learning Resources' staff member to grow personally and professionally.
  •  Create an atmosphere in which persons in all areas of Learning Resources participate in the overall direction of the program.
  •  Promote a strong liaison with intracollege departments and local and state organizations and colleges for coordination and exchange of resources, services and ideas.
  •  Evaluate on a continuing basis all Learning Resources' activities for effectiveness.
