Hurricanes in SC

According to Alfred H. Vang, Deputy Director of the SC DNR Land, Water & Conservation Division, "The Palmetto State hasn't experienced a "big" hurricane since Hugo in 1989. Our coastal population has grown by 30 percent (248,000) since then and will continue to grow, so we must take extra care to be prepared to deal with a storm of that magnitude. I hope you will take a few minutes to learn what you need to do to get ready for hurricane season and how the various agencies within state government are working to help prepare for these events. Are you prepared?"  --from SC DNR website
