How to do Research for a College Paper: STEP 3-A: Where will you FIND BOOKS?

Finding and Using eBooks

Try using the Online Books section on the Databases by Subject webpage for entire books online.  Set up an account while in the library and then you can search all of our eBooks from home also!

Reference Books

Use an encyclopedia to get an overview of your topic. The library has general encyclopedias (like World Book) and subject specific encyclopedias (like the Encyclopedia of Religion or the Juvenile Justice Sourcebook). We even have electronic reference books. Check out the Gale Virtual Reference Center or Credo Reference links on the library webpage.  Additionally, take a look at our Reference subject guide for more resources.

Attention Literature Searchers!

Literature Research

To search for works by an author in the library catalog, select the "Author" button using the format: last name, first name.

To search for works about the author or criticism about an author's work, select the "Subject" button and the same format: last name, first name.

(Hint: The books "By" and "About" each author sit near each other on the bookshelf.  Each author has his or her own call#.)

Perhaps browse call number areas such as:

  • PN -- Literature (General)
  • PR -- English literature
  • PS -- Amerian literature
